Visionary members: Galloways; SWELVIS; Southampton Sight; NCBA; Focus Birmingham; Hereford Vision Links; Sight Concern Worcester; Vision West of England; Sight Service Gateshead; Yorkshire Coast Sight Support are working with RNIB and Visionary to test the feasibility of introducing a common framework for Confidence-Building Courses (Living with Sight Loss and equivalent). The idea is that this will be available as a free national resource.
We know that Confidence Building Courses make a tremendous difference to anyone living with sight loss. The framework has been designed to promote consistent quality standards and outcomes whilst enabling a flexible approach that can reflect local differences. The partnership approach will enable more people with sight loss across the UK to benefit from quality confidence building courses whilst the ongoing national evaluation will provide an evidence base to support local organisations to secure funding.
RNIB are currently supporting partners by providing training, core session plans and outcomes frameworks. The framework enables delivery partners to self-evaluate, track their areas for development and evidence progress towards consistent facilitation of courses. The project will bring partners together to share their learning experience and look at ways of improving content and delivery of confidence courses in the future.
The pilot project is underway now, but it’s not too late for new partners to join. Partners will need to undertake a minimum of two courses and evaluate them and we anticipate that this phase of the pilot will be complete by March 2020.
