Hours: 14 -21 hours per week
Salary: 14 hours – £11,200, 21 hours – £16,800 (£28,000 Full Time Equivalent) per year
Contract: Permanent (6-month probationary period)

Young people have many challenges in life, adding a visual impairment can often stop them living to their full potential. Our aim is to support children and young people to grow up and live independently. Your role will be to help us achieve this and work with young people and their families to provide support and services that reach these goals. The work will be challenging, but equally rewarding.

Job Purpose:

To support visually impaired children and young people to live to their full potential, providing activities, sports sessions, confidence building and much more. You’ll be building relationships with children, young people, and their families to support them through their sight loss journey.

Duties: 

  • Provide regular contact to children, young people and their families to support their needs
  • Organise and run regular activities and events across Oxfordshire aimed at children and young people with a visual impairment
  • Work with partner organisations to support children and young people to reach their full potential
  • Support patients at the John Radcliffe Hospital during their visit to the paediatric low vision clinics
  • Provide regular e-news updates aimed at children, young people and their families
  • Develop the service based on feedback from children, young people, families and partner organisations
  • Keep accurate records and provide reports when needed
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings
  • Attend relevant training and networking events
  • Be an ambassador for MyVision and help us to reach out, grow and continue to support visually impaired people across Oxfordshire
  • There may, on occasion, be a need to work outside normal hours e.g., weekends and evenings

Person Specification:

Essential skills, experience and knowledge:

  • Experience of working with children and/or young people
  • Experience of organising events and activities
  • Knowledge of good safeguarding practice
  • Strong administration and organisational skills

Desirable skills, experience and knowledge:

  • Lived or learned experience of visual impairment or other disabilities
  • Experience of working with disabled children

Personal Qualities:

  • The ability to work under own initiative
  • Good communicator
  • Creative thinker and problem solving
  • A supportive team player

This role is subject to a DBS Check and two references.
