Suffolk Sight is a local, community-based sight loss charity supporting children and adults of all ages. We work hard to provide services that are friendly and practical, and to raise awareness of the different aspects of living with sight loss.

We are seeking a Befriending Officer to join our team.

The role plays a key part in the charity, supporting the day-to-day running of the befriending scheme and befriending volunteers. The Befriending Officer will work with the Volunteer Co-ordinator, other staff and the Suffolk Sight Trustee Board in order to develop and sustain the scheme. The main areas of focus are:

  • Managing the day-to-day running of the befriending scheme to support the members of Suffolk Sight. Acting as an initial point of contact for people accessing the befriending service, potential befrienders and existing befriending volunteers.
  • Recruiting befriending volunteers in accordance with the Suffolk Sight’s recruitment process.
  • Providing ongoing support and supervision to matched pairs to enable them to receive the maximum benefit from the service. Facilitating the beginning and ending of the relationship, including matching volunteers to clients and overseeing the relationship.

This is a great opportunity for someone with experience of motivating and engaging volunteers, combined with a positive and outgoing attitude and a confident approach to building and maintaining effective working relationships.
