RNIB logo – See differently

We have launched our ambitious new strategy, which sets out both our long-term ambitions and medium-term targets, to ensure every person with sight loss can live the life they want to lead, without limits.

Guided by research and insights from blind and partially sighted people, the latest strategy has three key focus areas:

  1. Eye Health and Eye Care
  2. Skills and Tools for Life
  3. Getting Around

These focus areas will support the five secondary impact areas below:

  1. Employment and financial inclusion
  2. Education and habilitation
  3. Leisure and volunteering
  4. Relationships and social networks
  5. Changing society

To achieve the goals, RNIB are implementing organisational changes to support with the delivery of the strategy. One of the ways RNIB will be managing this amidst the cost-of-living crisis, whilst acknowledging charitable giving for the whole sector has reduced, is to operate with a planned deficit for this financial year using our reserves for support. While our income is stable and we are managing the increase in costs, this isn’t a long-term solution. We therefore plan to spend the next 6 months working on a new structure and ways of working. This will affect RNIB staff and we recognise the concern these changes will bring so support will be available for all staff through this time of change.

Whilst we cannot confirm what services and roles will change just yet, we can assure that RNIB will concentrate on tackling the causes of the barriers and inequalities that people with sight loss face – barriers that mean people don’t receive vital practical and emotional support when they need it, or access to vision rehabilitation to learn the skills needed to navigate life with sight loss.

We aim to remain transparent with our staff, our partners and our stakeholders and will continue to share updates with you as we move forward with our new strategy.
