At the Natural History Museum (NHM) we have an opportunity for eight London based blind or visually impaired young people who are interested in creative writing, poetry or spoken word and are aged between 16 to 21 years old.

Working together as a group they will create content for a brand-new audio description guide for our evolution and wildlife gardens. Sessions will be facilitated by award winning poet and rapper, Testament, NHM scientists and staff, and will explore nature, science and geology (with a focus on the exploring rocks, soils, fossils and evolution) in multi-sensory ways whilst being creative and experimenting with spoken word, rap, creative- writing and poetry to find the way participants want to express themselves.

Workshops will take place at the Museum in February half term 2024 and on March 9th with two online Saturday meetings between this, dates and times are listed below. We will arrange and cover travel costs, taxis if needed, and we will provide lunches. As co-creators of this exciting new content for the museum, we will thank participants for their time, by giving vouchers to the value of £12.50 per hour via HighStreetVouchers.com.

We will discuss and plan for everyone’s personal and individual access requirements before the workshops begin. Learning support will be provided and participants can bring personal 1 to 1 support if required.

If you are interested, or know a blind or visually impaired young person who might be interested, then we would love to hear from you.

Email Harriet Fink (Learning and Volunteering Programme Manager for the Urban Nature Project) as soon as possible to find out more.

Preference will be given to young people from the boroughs of RBKC, Westminster and Hammersmith and Fulham but anyone London based will be considered.
