Wee County residents with sight and hearing loss invited to sensory hub open day

Clackmannanshire residents are invited to an open day for a new hub to learn about the services and social groups it offers to people with sight and hearing loss.
The Wee County Hub, based at Tullibody Civic Centre, is run by Forth Valley Sensory Centre (FVSC) and is open to anyone in Clackmannanshire who has sensory loss and their families. It will open on Thursday August 10 for residents of all ages to drop-in and learn more about the services and activities on offer. Information stalls will be set up from 10am, allowing members of the community to attend for coffee, cake and a chat. There will also be a youth group pizza making class and games, Boccia with Scottish Disability Sport, and an art class taking place. Anyone with an interest is invited to visit the hub, which opened its doors this month.
FVSC is based in Falkirk and is available to people across central Scotland including Stirling and Clackmannanshire. However, the new hub means the charity now has a physical presence in Clackmannanshire and can bring its services directly to residents in the area who need it.
Weekly drop-in sessions began last Thursday and a taster youth programme has been taking place. The hub provides replacement hearing aid batteries for NHS users as well as information about local audiology services. Free community ‘Voices Off’ conversational British Sign Language classes will start at Hawkhill Community Centre on Wednesday August 2 from 6.30pm-7.30pm. FVSC plans to offer a range of social activities and opportunities as part of its work to tackle isolation associated with blindness and deafness. The charity’s main objective is to build confidence and independence in those with sensory loss.
