Alison Stannard named in Queen’s Birthday Honours List
Sight Support Hull and East Yorkshire is delighted to announce that Services Manager, Alison Stannard, has been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Alison has been recognised with a British Empire Medal for her dedication and compassion in overseeing the charity’s services, particularly in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

When the lockdown started, Sight Support’s face-to-face support services had to stop. Alison and the team at Sight Support took on the huge challenge of adapting services and developing new ways to provide vital support to thousands of visually impaired people. The new services included proactive telephone welfare calls, virtual meetings and events, shopping and medication collections, telephone befriending calls and a vaccination taxi service.
The award marks Alison’s and Sight Support’s commitment to supporting thousands of local, blind and partially sighted people during one of the most challenging times the charity has faced in its 157 year history.
On receiving the award, Alison said: “I am honoured to be awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for contribution to the coronavirus response. I would never have expected to receive a reward for the work that I do, even in the most unprecedented of times. The award is a testament to all the staff and volunteers at Sight Support who have worked so hard to make this happen and so I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of everyone.”
