A cross region partnership benefiting people living with sight loss
The power of collaboration is working across the Visionary network. Sight Advice South Lakes in Cumbria, Support 4 Sight in Saffron Walden, Chelmsford, West and Mid Essex and Sight Concern in Worcester have designed a short programme of events for their members, and members of other organisations to enjoy. The monthly programme aims to offer fun, something interesting as well as information to clients across the regions.
Tim Ward from Sight Advice South Lakes said “Working together has great benefits for all involved. We are able to attract a broader range of speakers, our clients get to meet new people and we all share the responsibility of arranging the events”.
The partnership working is developing further between organisations as they are also sharing the skills and expertise to ensure the needs and aspirations of people living with sight loss are met. During the pandemic, when many organisations have moved to offering services through online platforms, location is no longer a barrier to access the advice needed. A key example of this is the employment support three people living in Cumbria have received from Zsuzsi in Essex.
Gary Hyams, CEO at Support 4 Sight said “I’m glad that we were able to support Sight Advice clients with employment advice. Working with each other and other Visionary members is entirely what partnership should be and clearly brings benefits to us all.”
Their next event is on 11 February at 10.00am and is a talk with Dave Steele, aka “The Blind Poet”. Dave Steele is an award-winning poet, author, public speaker, singer, and advocate for the blind. Diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) in 2014, this genetic eye condition left Dave “severely sight impaired. He has a story to tell that is both inspirational and riveting interspersed with his poems. So please come and join us, on Thursday 11 February at 10am and tell your friends and family!
