HR and employment law – NCVO/Knowhow information on recruiting and managing staff, including templates for relevant policies and procedures. It provides useful resources on key employment policies and recruitment and starting employment.

Written statement and contract of employment – NCVO/Knowhow’s resources with a model written statement template free to download.

Written statement of the main terms and conditions of employment – a template available to download on the Acas website. This includes details of payworking hours, holidays entitlement, etc.

Useful Organisations/Websites

Acas – the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, provides free and impartial information and advice on workplace relations and employment law.  It also provides training and advice to employers.

Equality and Human Rights Commission – a statutory non-departmental public body established by the Equality Act 2006; a centre  of excellence for evidence, analysis and equality and human rights law and a point of contact for policy makers, public bodies and business.

NCVO knowhow – NCVO is a NGO based in England, championing the voluntary sector in England by connecting, representing and supporting voluntary organisations. Their ‘Knowhow’ website provides lots of resources and e-learning for charities, social enterprises and community groups. Many of the pages are free to view for non NCVO members too.
