We are excited to announce that we are now taking booking requests for the Visionary Annual Conference 2017.

The event will be held at the Aston Conference Centre in Birmingham, on Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 November 2017.  There will also be an informal networking evening on Tuesday 31 October 2017.

The theme – Unlocking Potential, Creating Value – recognises that local sight loss charities make a significant difference to the lives of the people they support.  There is huge potential amongst Visionary members, as well as in the wider sight loss sector, to make an even bigger impact but it is not always possible to realise this due to funding and time pressures.  Through the core Visionary team, our corporate partners and, most importantly, the collective Visionary network, we support local sight loss charities to deliver efficient and effective services of a consistently good quality that build upon the achievements already made in improving the lives of blind and partially sighted people.

Booking and fees

We are again offering reduced early bird rates to all members, as well as free places and a limited number of travel subsidies to band A and B members in the hope that we will have a cross-section of our membership at the conference.  Delegate spaces are limited, so will be offered on a first come first served basis, and to ensure that all members have the opportunity to attend, we will be limiting places to three per organisation, with a waiting list for any additional people.  We will honour early bird rates for anyone who books before the deadline, and confirm places in late September.

To take advantage of the early bird offer (including a free place for band A and B members), we must receive your booking request by 5pm on 15 September 2017.

To reserve your place at the conference, please complete the online Booking Form for each person attending from your organisation.

Following feedback from last year’s event, we have revised the timings this year, allowing extra time for networking, workshops and the exhibition.  Further details can be found in the Conference programme.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a workshop proposal.  We were overwhelmed with submissions enabling us to offer an even wider selection of workshops than in previous years, facilitated by our membership, the core Visionary team, and external specialists. The full Workshop programme is now available.

This year, we are asking you to make your workshop choices at the time of booking.  Spaces on each workshop are limited, so will be offered on a first come first served basis.  Please also ensure that you choose the exhibition as one of your workshop choices.

We’re pleased to announce that voting for this year’s awards is now open and that, for the first time, the award winners will be chosen by the membership rather than a judging panel. Responding to previous feedback, we hope that this will give members a much better chance to read about what is going on elsewhere and to recognise their peers.

Now in their eighth year, the awards aim to recognise and celebrate excellence in the leadership and management of local sight loss charities and in the quality of service offered. Highlighting local charities’ achievements helps to spread good practice throughout the sector and draws attention to the talent and expertise being brought to bear on charitable activity in the sight loss sector in the UK.

Thank you to everyone who submitted an award nomination.  We received a significant number of entries with an even spread across all four categories. The entries were all of a high standard and clearly demonstrated the amazing work that is happening in the Visionary membership. These entries have been shortlisted and summarised and you can read more about them on our website and in the link below.

Each member is allowed one vote per organisation across all four categories. Please do take the time to read entries and vote.

To vote, please complete the Awards Voting Form by 5pm on Wednesday 25 October 2017.
