VI Insight Hub – Launch of Education Report
Monday 10 February 2025
2:30 pm to 3:30pm
Zoom
This event will provide valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and anyone interested in improving the educational experiences of visually impaired students. During the webinar, we will discuss key findings from the report, including:
- Having a visual impairment can affect the way a child or young person experiences the world and is associated with reduced access to information and fewer opportunities for incidental learning. This can have significant developmental and educational implications.
- Assessment outcomes show a consistent and significant attainment gap between children and young people (CYP) with a vision impairment (VI) and children without SEN or disability. That said, recent GCSE data (2022) show that pupils with VI as their primary SEN perform better than most other SEN groups.
- The Curriculum Framework for Children with VI was launched in 2022 to define the specialist skill development, interventions and best practice support that are essential for CYP with VI. There is a sector-wide call for the framework to gain statutory status and be adopted in national and local policy.
This is the latest report to be published on the sector-wide VI Insight Hub. The Hub is an accessible, up-to-date, and authoritative source of evidence, insights and statistics from research and other literature relating to people living with sight loss.
Previous topics explored by the Hub are the barriers faced by blind and partially sighted people in accessing employment opportunities and the impact of sight loss on people’s mental health.
We encourage you to join us for this important discussion and to share your perspectives, and look forward to your participation and to working together to enhance the educational opportunities for children and young people with vision impairments.
