Children, Young People and Families Forum 2024-2025

This monthly forum is for anyone developing or delivering services for Children, Young People and Families and whose organisation is part of the Visionary network, to create an informal space to share ideas and experiences.

We know this is a important area of service delivery which can also be emotionally challenging. This forum will provide a safe space to share concerns, challenges, successes, ideas and gain support from your colleagues across the Visionary members.

On 24 October, we are pleased to be joined by guests from Guide Dogs, RNIB, Technology Association of Visually-Impaired People (TAVIP) and Thomas Pocklington Trust to talk about “Technology support for Children, Young People and their Parents – a summary of support available from across the sector.”

Identifying the best technology, training and support for visually impaired young people can be a real challenge. Parents may be unsure where to turn for help on technology, and how best to navigate changes to technology and software at key transitions in their young person’s education.

In this session we bring together a number of specialists from the sector to provide Visionary members with a brief overview and links to further information. RNIB will cover the policy context around technology as set out in the Curriculum Framework for Children Young People with VI (CFVI), the key role of the QTVI (Qualified Teacher for Vision Impairment), timings and issues around key transition points. Guide Dogs and Thomas Pocklington Trust will cover the practical support and resources which they offer, and TAVIP will talk about the support it offers through a number of training partners. We will finish with a discussion on what further support might be helpful in this area.

We look forward to seeing you at the session. If you have any specific questions or topics that you would like us to cover please email Amy Pearman at Visionary.

Please note: The next session will be on 3 October 2024, 1 PM to 2 PM due to a clash with the Visionary Annual Conference on 26 September 2024, 1 PM to 2 PM.
