East Chesire Eye Society celebrate their 150th year anniversary
East Cheshire Eye Society, formed in 1875, is celebrating our 150th anniversary – our sesquicentennial!
The Eye Society was initially formed to help people who had developed vision impairments whilst working in the local silk mills, by teaching them new skills including basket weaving, making coal sacks and piano tuning.
Over the years the charity has gradually evolved into what it is today, but through all those changes, we’ve remained fiercely proud of being local and independent.
To celebrate our sesquicentennial (go on, it feels good when you get to grips with it!), we’re planning a large exhibition; a celebration evening; an art competition for local primary schools; a celebration lottery with four draws through the year; and various fundraising and marketing activities.
We’re really looking forward to the year ahead, especially being able to recognise, and bring together, all the people who make the things we do possible.
