A sensory charity that supports thousands of people in the Forth Valley is holding a winter fayre to help people get into the festive spirit and raise funds to support its vital work.

Forth Valley Sensory Centre (FVSC) organises the annual event to raise funds to support its work and celebrate its work with the community and the people they support. The charity supports people in Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire, offering a range of services to those who are blind, partially sighted, deaf and hard of hearing.

Last year’s event raised £3100 and the charity hopes this year’s event will be another huge success. The fayre takes place on Friday November 29 at 10am at FVSC in Camelon. There will be an array of stalls, activities and a festive performance from the Sensory Singers choir. It follows a ‘spooktacular’ Halloween party that a smile on everyone’s face. The day, held at the charity’s Camelon hub, raised £290 for the centre which will go towards running events, activities and support.

The charity invited party goers to dress up in their best costumes for the occasion. They also served up spooky treats – and helped people make their own decorated chocolate spider apples, and played games including spider splat. The charity also held a Halloween raffle, with one lucky winner bagging a Halloween goodie bag. It was supported by local organisations such as C-Change, Enable, Dates ‘N’ Mates, and Active Healthcare. The centre’s BSL OAP group – a social group for people who are deaf and hard of hearing – also got into the ‘spirit’ of Halloween by dressing up at their social group.

FVSC has supported people with sensory loss and their families who live in central Scotland, including Stirling and Clackmannanshire, for more than 15 years. It acts as a community hub, offering support, advice, practical help, and social opportunities. The centre has around 20,000 visitors every year and is funded by a mix of statutory funding and donations.

“I love Halloween and really enjoyed the party at FVSC. I especially liked decorating the apples, as well as colouring the pumpkin and ghost pictures. I had a good time."
