If you’ve had any dealings with Vista in the recent past, you will probably already know that we’ve been talking about our intentions to not just replace our Kathleen Rutland Care Home, but also do something more interesting instead for at least 12 years. In that time our ideas and plans have grown, but so have the challenges we’ve faced in bringing them to reality.

This July, they got one step closer – achieving the HUGE milestone of securing planning permission for an integrated Centre for Sight Loss which will provide a home to 72 residents in 6 separate households, but be “the complete opposite of the ‘home for the blind’ institutions of the past”.  Driven by the feedback and aspiration of our members, the centre will also include wide range of facilities for the whole sight loss community including clinics, rehabilitation, training kitchen, sensory room, accessible gym, café, shop and lots of multiple-use communal spaces.

The team at Vista would like to thank everyone across Visionary who has offered practical and moral support, from helping to grow and test ideas to providing evidence for planning applications, that enabled us to get to this point.  Of course, now the ‘real’ work begins!
