Thomas Pocklington Trust Launch New Video “What do we See?”
Thomas Pocklington Trust are helping to raise awareness of the issues and challenges facing people living with sight loss through the development of a new short film:
What do we see? How the world looks to blind and partially sighted people.
This film aims to increase awareness and understanding of the needs and aspirations of blind and partially sighted people. Thomas Pocklington Trust have made the film available as a resource for all organisations across the sight loss sector to use and share and use for further education in the challenges facing people living with visual impairment. This may include Visual Impairment awareness training, supporting families, campaigning and educating professionals.
As we know, visual impairment varies from person to person and it is sometimes difficult to explain and understand. This short film simulates, with increasing severity, the six most common sight conditions in the UK today:
- Cataracts
- Diabetic Retinopathy
- Retinitis Pigmentosa
- Hemianopia
- Age-related Macular Degeneration
- Glaucoma.
The film enables the viewer to gain an understanding of how the world looks through the eyes of people who are living with a visual impairment as they go about their everyday lives.
Throughout the video, everyday activities are overlaid with simulation along with a narration describing each condition in terms of cause, demographics, impact and available treatment.
Thomas Pocklington Trust have created the video with assistance from RNIB and Glaucoma UK and includes captions and transcripts.
