Low Vision Exhibition with Support 4 Sight Wednesday 16th August 2017 10 am – 3 pm.

Can you imagine suddenly losing your sight? Some would think it’s as simple as trying something while closing your eyes but the difference is; you can open your eyes again.

It is estimated that only 1 in 5 people with sight loss are registered which is Just over 7,000 people in Essex. This means there are approximately 28,000 unregistered people in Essex living with sight loss. Many of those would be unsupported to cope with the devastating effects, such as depression, social isolation or a huge decline of independence.

Support 4 Sight, a local sight loss charity, aims to meet the needs of as many people experiencing sight loss as possible, as well as their families, friends and carers. One of the ways we do this is by holding free, annual Exhibitions across Mid and West Essex and inviting local people to attend. The next exhibition is on Wednesday 16th August 2017 and will be held at Broomfield Village Hall, Chelmsford, CM1 7AH.

The event will be officially opened at 10.30am by the Mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr Duncan Lumley, accompanied by the Mayoress, Mrs Edna Lumley and is set to close at 3pm .

Joining Support 4 Sight on the day will be low vision aid suppliers and other national and local sensory loss organisations.  Experts will be available to offer information, advice and guidance, as well as interactive demonstrations with some of the latest in low vision aid technology. The day will be extremely useful to anyone affected by sensory loss and we would love for you to join us.

Support 4 Sight’s Resource Centre Manager, Paul Atkins commented, “This is now our third exhibition in Chelmsford. Year on year the numbers of people attending this event have increased and we are delighted to come back and continue raising awareness of sight loss and how it affects thousands of people across Essex.  The exhibition is an ideal opportunity to showcase what services are offered by Support 4 Sight and other sensory organisations.  The event is free, please come along and talk to us and the many experts on the day. There will be refreshments where you will have the opportunity to sit and chat with others in a relaxed environment.”

Said, Sophie Biebuyck, Manager of Hearing Help Essex “Hearing Help Essex will be attending, to provide information, advice and guidance about living with hearing loss. They will also be able to offer advice about assistive equipment such as amplified telephones, TV listeners and flashing door bells etc, and answer any questions you may have.”
